Nicola Werner Platter - Blue/Purple Cherries
Nicola Werner studied Fine Art at the Central School of Art, and then trained with Alan Caiger-Smith and his team at the renowned Aldermaston Pottery in Berkshire. Nicola set up her first pottery in Trottiscliffe, Kent in 1986, then to a rural workshop in Somerset, where she works now. Nicola has a distinctive style of employing patterns and colours that she has refined over the years.
All the pots are thrown in majolica clay from San Sepolcro, the heart of Italian tin–glazed pottery, then fired in kilns that are powered by renewable energy. Nicola uses an Aldermaston recipe for her opaque ivory white tin-glaze. Each pot is individually painted. The bright colours of Mediterranean Pottery are muted to suit the light and climate of the UK thus creating a subtle British majolica.
